Which Model at Your Porsche Center Is the Best Fit?
Entry Level: The 718 Cayman
If you’re just getting into the brand and have a smaller budget, then the 718 Cayman might be the right choice for you. This is considered the gold standard driver’s car on the market. It’s a two-door model that seats two and is a rear, mid-engine coupe.
Most of the models you’ll look at can be fitted with a seven-speed PDK transmission or a six-speed manual, and there are four models to choose from. As for engines, you have multiple choices, depending on budget, but all are powerful and responsive, as a Porsche should be.
Classic Porsche: The 911
It just does not get more classically Porsche than the 911. It’s the legendary two-door, rear-engine sports car. The base model is a hardtop that comes in three styles: Carrera, Carrera Cabriolet, and Targa. You can upgrade in the S versions to a bigger engine and also choose at that point a seven-speed manual transmission. The 4 versions come with all-wheel drive, while the rest are rear-wheel drive.
If what you’re after is power, you can’t do better than the Turbo S, and if you want that pure Porsche feeling, the GT3 is probably the model you’re looking for. It’s got the naturally aspirated 4L engine and comes with a manual transmission standard.
All-Electric Sport: The Taycan
If you’re interested in an electric car, then take a look at the Porsche Taycan. It’s the first electric production car the marque ever made and debuted in 2020. It runs on an EV platform that it shares with the Audi E-Tron GT and comes in either a sedan version or in the Sport/Cross Turismo wagon trim. The base model is rear-wheel drive, and all others are all-wheel drive.
Porsche for the Family: The Macan
If you’ve got a family but you still want a Porsche, take a look at the Macan. This one debuted in 2014 and has been the best seller ever since. In fact, in 2019, the company sold more of these SUV crossovers than it did the 911, the 718, the Panamera, and the Taycan combined. You get all-wheel drive, a seven-speed automatic transmission, four trim choices, an all-electric version, and lots of great engines to look at.
