Porsche Transmission Services: Ensuring Smooth Operation
The transmission is the second most important system in your Porsche after the engine. It transforms your engine’s immense power into a usable form to move the wheels at your chosen speed.

It’s a highly complex system, and over time, parts can become worn or damaged. As your Porsche Center, we want to tell you a few signs you need to visit us for a transmission service.
Signs You Need a Transmission Service at Your Porsche Center
Transmission Leak
Transmission fluid moves through the transmission and protects numerous components from damage. Many transmission components depend on friction to work effectively. The fluid coats these components, allowing them to move smoothly and preventing friction damage. The liquid also provides the essential hydraulic power that enables the gears to engage.
Most transmission leaks are caused by a worn transmission pan gasket. You’ll usually easily spot a leak as the fluid is bright or dark red. If you have a transmission leak, we advise calling us ASAP and not driving your Porsche. Transmission damage can easily result if your transmission is low on fluid. We’ll find and fix the leak then we’ll refill your transmission.
Gear Slipping
Gear slipping is very dangerous, and it can occur with no warning. The transmission will shift unexpectedly to the previous gear, and this movement is usually accompanied by harsh grinding noises and a drop in engine power. It can even bring your Porsche to an instant stop if it shifts into neutral or park.
The most common cause of gear slipping is low transmission fluid. As we’ve seen, transmission fluid provides the hydraulic power that shifts the gears. If there’s insufficient fluid to provide this power, the new gear won’t fully engage and can drop back to its previous position at any time. Worn gear teeth can also cause this problem. Our technicians will examine your transmission and repair the problem.
Damaged Sensors
Your Porsche contains numerous sensors that supply information to your computer. They also receive instructions. Sensors can wear out as they age, and this can cause them to send the wrong signals or refuse to work. Damaged transmission sensors can prevent the transmission from accessing certain gears or stop it from working completely.
Your engine and transmission must work together to move your Porsche. If one or more transmission sensors fail, the check engine light immediately illuminates. This is a warning something has gone wrong and is preventing your engine from working effectively. We’ll identify the damaged sensors using a diagnostic reader and then replace them, and your transmission will work correctly again.
Most transmission problems can be quickly and easily fixed if they’re identified when they start. Contact us today at Porsche Stevens Creek in Santa Clara, CA.
